Wave United vs Mariners

This Friday's USL on Fox Sports World live A-League match takes place at the Virginia Beach SportsPlex as the Milwaukee Wave United take on the Virginia Beach Mariners. Kickoff is at 8:00 pm EDT.

Milwaukee Wave United

Coach Art Kramer's team, which currently stands at 1- 5-1 (4 points) will be looking to secure its first points on the road during the 2004 campaign. Milwaukee is 0- 3-0 on the road so far this season. All five of Milwaukee's losses this year have also been by a lone goal.

The 2003 regular season champions are led by newcomer Johnny Torres from Minnesota with two goals and one assist for five points, followed by three players with three points (Chad Dombrowski, Todd Dusosky and Greg Howes). Goalkeeper Jim Larkin has a 1.33 goals-against average through seven matches.

Virginia Beach Mariners

The Mariners likewise have not had much success in A- League play after a successful campaign in 2003, going 2-6-2 (8 points) thus far this season and resting in eighth place in the nine-team Eastern Conference. One- goal decisions have also been a staple for the Mariners with eight of 10 of the team's losses being by one goal.

Virginia Beach's leading scorer continues to be Dante Washington with three goals and two assists (8 points) in nine games. He ranks 19th in points in the A-League. Following Washington are Hamisi Amani-Dove and Pato Aguilera, each with two goals and one assist each for five points each. Goalkeeper Matt Nelson ranks fourth in the league in saves with 46 and goalkeeper Matt Pickens has recorded two shutouts in his two starts.

History

Friday night's match is the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. With both teams looking to turn their seasons around and make a run back to the postseason, it will likely be an exciting must-see game. Check it out on Fox Sports World at 8:00 pm ET.
