USL Fans Vote Tribbett Top Defender
July 19, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - Ken Tribbett was named the 2018 Fans' Choice USL Midseason Defender of the Year following a week-long vote on the league's official website.
Every fan vote counted as Rush Soccer's First Team captain won by the narrowest margin of the league's five midseason awards. Two percent separated Tribbett and Indy Eleven's Ayoze as Tribbett won with 31 percent of the vote.
Tribbett's ability to contribute in the attack in conjunction with his skills on the backline made him a contender for the award. He ranks second on the team with five goals including four headed goals that came off set pieces. Tribbett's most memorable strike of the season was his bicycle kick that sealed a 1-1 result against the Charleston Battery in the club's inaugural home opener.
The USL Midseason Awards still have more categories open for voting including Best Comeback and Best Goal-Line Clearance. Penn FC's comeback against Louisville City FC that saw the Blue and White earn a 3-3 draw after trailing 3-1 at halftime is among the nominees. Kyle Venter is nominated for his goal-line clearance against the Bethlehem Steel that saved an open goal. Voting for the awards will end on Friday, July 20 at 12 p.m.
