USL Press Release

Montreal's Biello birthday performance helps net Player of the Week honor

TAMPA, Fla. - United Soccer Leagues announced it's A-League Team of the Week today, selecting Montreal midfielder Mauro Biello as Player of the Week for his three goals and an assist in two key wins.

Biello's 29th birthday is one he will never forget, scoring twice to defeat his former team, the Northern Conference-leading Rochester Raging Rhinos, 2-0 Wednesday night at Claude Robillard Stadium.

Biello tallied the first of the night on an assist from Milan Kojic when he slipped behind the Rochester defense in the 59th minute. His second came six minutes later on a penalty kick.

His stellar play continued Sunday night when the Impact played host to the Seattle Sounders in its 200th game, a contest that needed overtime to determine a winner. Biello struck for the game-winning goal with two minutes left in overtime.

With his back to the goal and a quick running glance at the keeper, Biello swung around with his left foot and beat a diving Rich Cullen in the 108th minute. His eighth goal of the season was also his second consecutive game-winner.

He also helped open the scoring in the 10th minute, connecting with George Papandreou.
