USL-2 Awards Winners Announced

TAMPA, Fla. - United Soccer Leagues announced the USL Second Division honors for the 2010 season, naming the Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year. The awards were presented at Friday's Awards Banquet at the 2010 PDL Championship in Charleston, South Carolina. Voting was conducted by USL-2 coaches and managers.
Most Valuable Player - Lamar Neagle, Charleston Battery
In his first USL-2 season after spending 2009 with Seattle of MLS, Neagle used the final weekend of the regular season to nudge out Richmond striker Matthew Delicâte in the goals and points races. A former standout with the Des Moines Menace of the PDL, Neagle finished with 12 goals in 19 games to pace the regular season champs.
Rookie of the Year - Jeremy Deighton, Pittsburgh Riverhounds
A 2009 product of Slippery Rock University, Deighton performed well for the Riverhounds and finished second to Chad Severs in goals with five in 13 games. Deighton led the team with 29 shots as Pittsburgh qualified for the 2010 USL-2 playoffs.
Coach of the Year - Mike Anhaeuser, Charleston Battery
You can't argue with the numbers as Anhaeuser's squad finished atop the table with 11 wins and only four losses in its first season back in USL-2. The Battery feature the league's most potent offense while also finishing undefeated at home with a 7-0-3 mark.
Defender of the Year - Shintaro Harada, Pittsburgh Riverhounds
While 2010 was his fourth consecutive season on a USL-2 All-League Team, this is the first Defender of the Year selection for Pittsburgh's backline leader. Harada earned the honor ahead of 2009 winner Yomby William of Richmond, also a finalist this season.
Goalkeeper of the Year - Hunter Gilstrap, Pittsburgh Riverhounds
With six shutouts in 18 appearances and a second-best 1.00 goals-against average, Gilstrap was a big reason why the Riverhounds finished tied for the fewest goals allowed (20). Most impressively, Gilstrap faced the second most shots in the league (74).
The #2 Richmond Kickers will face the #1 Charleston Battery in Saturday night's USL-2 Championship at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston (6 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Channel).
