October 13, 2003 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release


The wall - Waterloo's Kevin Regan turned in his leagueleading second shutout of the season yesterday blanking St. Louis, 5-0. The Boston Bruins prospect currently boasts the USHL's best saves percentage (.973).

Steel strong - Chicago's Ben Geelan had a goal and two assists to lead the unbeaten (in regulation) Steel past Sioux Falls yesterday. Danny Charleston also notched two points to stay tied for the league scoring lead.

Streaking - Tri-City forward Rastislav Spirko is currently in the midst of a five-game goal-scoring streak. Danville's Alex Foster is on a four-game tear with six goals over that span.

Beasts in the East - Danville, Chicago and Waterloo are a combined 13-0-2. Big period - Des Moines registered a season-high five second-period goals against Green Bay on Friday. Mike Neilon had three assists in the contest.

Power player - Lincoln's Evan Rankin leads the league in power-play goals with three in six games. Plus player - Chicago's Justin Lewandowski has the League's leading plusminus rating at plus-7.

Rubber Man - Last season's USHL All-Rookie Team pick in goal, Michael Zacharias, leads the League in shots faced with 243 through six games.

Lincoln head coach Steve Johnson on the Stars' performance against River City (as told to Mark Derowitsch, Lincoln Journal-Star):

"At least we showed a little fire. But if that's all the positives -- you showed a little fire in one period -- it's a pretty sad night."

LPH/USHL Offensive Player of the Week:

Alex Foster -- DANVILLE WINGS

Foster (Canton, Mich.) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after registering four goals and an assist (five points) to complement a weekly plus-minus rating of plusthree. Foster's Wings won twice. Honorable mention goes to Justin Lewandowski (Chicago), Joel Hanson (Waterloo) and Paul Stastny (River City).

LPH/USHL Defensive Player of the Week:

Kevin Regan -- WATERLOO BLACK HAWKS

Regan (South Boston, Mass.) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting his league-leading second shutout along with his third and fourth wins of the season. For the week, Regan posted a 0.48 goals-against average.

Honorable mention goes to Justin Tobe (Danville), Eric Aarnio (Tri- City) and Justin Johnson (Sioux City).
