USHL Releases 30-Man Protected & Affiliate List
Published on September 1, 2016 under United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release
The United States Hockey League announced today the 30-man protected and affiliate list for its member clubs. The lists indicate players that have been invited by USHL teams, but not all players invited to pre-season camps are included. Today also marked the first day that Injured Reserve can be utilized.
315 players listed on 30-man protected lists are currently committed to college hockey. In addition, 16 players have already been selected in the NHL Draft. In total, players from 32 states, 16 countries and six Canadian provinces are represented. Minnesota (90), Michigan (68), Illinois (30), Wisconsin (27), Massachusetts (27), New York (26) and New Jersey (21) all had 20 or more players listed on 30-man protected lists.
Member clubs must make necessary drops to get to their 23-man protected list by September 19, 2016 at 11:59 PM (CST) to the league office, as well as USA Hockey. 23-man protected lists must adhere to regular season roster regulations: teams must carry a minimum of three U18 players (16 or 17 year olds) on their active roster at all times, teams must carry at least two goaltenders on their active roster at all times, teams cannot carry more than four 20-year olds on their active roster at a time and teams cannot carry more than four import players on their roster at one time. Beginning September 21, 2016 all roster moves will count towards annual roster move limit.
Both 30-man protected and affiliate lists are eligible to play in USHL pre-season games including the USHL Fall Classic West in Omaha, NE on September 8-10, and USHL Fall Classic East in Cranberry Township, PA on September 15-17.
