USFL Power Rankings

The United States Football week completed its second week with three teams still undefeated and three others seeking their first wins. In week two, the New Orleans Breakers edged the Houston Gamblers, and the Birmingham Stallions blew out the Memphis Showboats on Saturday. On Sunday the New Jersey Generals enjoyed a commanding victory over the Pittsburgh Maulers and the Michigan Panthers dropped the Philadelphia Stars.

Week three begins Saturday in Birmingham with a battle of the undefeated as 2-0 New Orleans faces 2-0 Birmingham. In Memphis, a tangle between winless teams pits 0-2 Memphis against 0-2 Houston. The weekend closes Sunday at Detroit with 1-1 Philadelphia looking to right the ship against 0-2 Pittsburgh, followed by 2-0 Michigan hosting 1-1 New Jersey.

The power rankings after week two:

1. Birmingham Stallions 2-0

Questions at the quarterback position with J'Mar Smith out for the season were quieted by Alex McGough's 301 yards passing and four touchdown performance in the Stallions' 40-point victory over the Showboats.

2. New Orleans Breakers 2-0

The Breakers rode their ground game to another close win, more than doubling their rushing performance from week one. The running attack relieved some of the pressure on quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson.

3. Michigan Panthers 2-0

While Jordan Love had difficulties passing the football, Reggie Corbin's 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns propelled the Panthers to victory over the Philadelphia Stars.

4. Philadelphia Stars 1-1

The Stars offensive line has given up nine sacks so far this season, hobbling quarterback Case Cookus. Establishing any running game could help.

5. New Jersey Generals 1-1

The defense bailed out the Generals in their victory over the Maulers with five sacks and three turnovers. Mike Riley hopes newcomers on offense can start to play better.

6. Houston Gamblers 0-2

The Gamblers showed life on offense in their loss to the Breakers, but three interceptions by quarterback Kenji Bahar proved to be too much to overcome.

7. Pittsburgh Maulers 0-2

In a repeat of the struggle they experienced last year at the quarterback position, the Maulers have not scored an offensive touchdown so far this season with two new passers.

8. Memphis Showboats 0-2

The Showboats are eager to forget a terrible performance on both sides of the football in their 42-2 loss to the Stallions.
