MILFORD, CT (May 3, 2005) - The United States Basketball League, Inc. (USBL) opened their 20th Anniversary season in Nebraska and have just completed their first full week of action. The fourth quarter has produced its share of stressful moments as several games went into overtime or were decided in the final minutes. Coaches are getting a feel for the chemistry of the team and adding to their offensive schemes as they build on last week's performance.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kareem Reid (Westchester Wildfire)
Kareem Reid can flat out score. He leads the USBL in scoring, highlighted by his performance on April 27th. In 38 minutes against the ValleyDawgs, Reid scored 46 points in a big road win for the Wildfire. Reid averaged 6 assists and 1 steal per game while making 81 percent of his free throws last week.
HONORABLE MENTION: Nate Johnson (Kansas Cagerz)
TEAM OF THE WEEK:
Kansas Cagerz
With the best record to open the 2005 season, the Cagerz have won 5 of 7 games. They have opened the season 5-0 at home, bringing their home winning streak to 20 games, after going undefeated at the Bicentennial Center last season. Tai Crutchfield, Nate Johnson, and Jason Miller have led the Cagerz during the first week of the play. Johnson's 24.5 points per game lead the team in scoring. He also added 3.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists a game. Crutchfield is averaging 21.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1 steal per game while complimenting Johnson. Miller has been a force on the boards, averaging 11 per game and recording 4 double-doubles.
