KENNESAW, GA (November 25, 2010) - NAPA AUTO PARTS presents Torneo de las Americas kicks-off Friday, Nov. 26 at 3:30 PM when Under-20 men's national teams from the United States and Colombia open the second event of the El Patron International Soccer Series at KSU Soccer Stadium. The tournament continues when Colombia meets Mexico Saturday, Nov. 27 and concludes with a USA versus. Mexico finale on Sunday, Nov. 28.
Tickets to the tournament start at $14 per match and are still available online at www.TheAtlantaBeat.com and by calling 678-298-4780.
Rejoining U.S. head coach Thomas Rongen's squad for the first time since the match against Mexico at the Dallas Cup on March 28 is midfielder Amobi Okugo, who has since made 11 appearances for the Philadelphia Union during his rookie season in Major League Soccer (MLS). The 19-year-old was part of the U.S. team that qualified for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship that year.
In total, seven players from MLS will be joining the American team on Friday, including Juan Agudelo, who recently scored a U.S. game winner against South Africa after starting both New York Red Bulls playoff series games against the San Jose Earthquakes. Tristan Bowen, of the Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS), will also be making his first trip to a U.S. camp since November 2008 when he traveled with the U-20 MNT to Spain.
Leagues in seven different countries will be represented on the U.S. team in Kennesaw, including two domestic leagues. Two players from Portugal, Gale Agbossoumonde and Greg Garza, two from England in Cody Cropper and Sebastian Lletget, and one each from Croatia (Alex Molano), Mexico (Moises Orozco), Germany (Parker Walsh), and Israel (Alex Zahavi) join the domestic-based group.
Moises Orozco, born in California, has been playing the last several years with Mexican Club Tigres. This past season he has been a regular with their Under 20 reserve team their 2nd division team as he is pushing for a start with the 1st team.
There are two players without professional experience on the 18-man list. Omar Salgado will enter the Major League Soccer draft in January 2011. The lone youth player is goalkeeper Eduardo Fernandez, who will be the first representative of Real Salt Lake AZ to join a U-20 MNT training camp.
Colombia recently finished second in the Copa Aero Sur Internacional Under-20 tournament losing 2-0 to Argentina at the finals in La Paz Bolivia. The club flew back from Bolivia before traveling the next day to Atlanta for Torneo de las Americas.
Colombia Results in Copa Aero Sur Internacional:
Bolivia 3-3 Colombia
Uruguay 0-0 Colombia
Colombia 1-0 Paraguay
"We are excited about the matches we have with the USA and Mexico," said Roberto Sabbagh, Colombia representive. "Both (teams) give us different challenges with their styles. Our performance in Bolivia was exceptional though disappointed in losing in the finals. We realize we are the favorites in this tournament, but we have tremendous respect for both USA and Mexico and realize that these will be great matches"
