NORFOLK, Feb. 5, 2003 -- The Nighthawks announced that the team has acquired yet another high-quality player - Duane Williams. Williams was a standout while playing for the University at Buffalo as an outside linebacker. Williams will surely terrorize his af2 opponents in the same manner that he did in the Mid-American Conference.
Here's some information about Mr. Williams:
College overview: Played two vastly different positions under two coaching staffs while at Buffalo, being a primarily rushing linebacker in a 3-4 as a junior and a strongside backer in the 4-3 as a senior...racked up 24 tackles for loss (11th all-time in school history) despite playing just two seasons...earned honor-able mention Mid-American Conference honors after ranking second in the conference in both sacks (nine) and tackles for loss (15) as a junior...school record four sacks in Buffalo's first-ever MAC victory, 20-17 over Bowling Green (9/23/00)...has great ability to make plays as he was involved in 39 Åimpact¹ plays in his two seasons (15 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, three interceptions and six pass breakups)...great combination of speed and strength...also played on the UB basketball team...redshirted in 1999.
Senior 2001: Finished fourth on the team in tackles with 64 while adjusting to new position...ranked third with nine tackles for loss on the season...had 12 tackles  one for loss and a pass breakup  versus Central Michigan (11/29)...also had 12 tackles at Eastern Michigan (10/27) to match his career-high...had six tackles in opener versus Rutgers and tipped pass that led to game-changing interception in a road win at UConn...had three tackles for loss and a half-sack at Kent State...finished his career with 11 tackles (seven solos) versus Akron.
Junior 2000: Earned honorable mention All-MAC honors...tied for 24th in the nation in quarterback sacks (0.8 per game)...set a school-record with four sacks in Buffalo's first-ever MAC victory, 20-17 over Bowling Green (9/23), including two on Bowling Green's last drive...led or tied for team lead in quarterback sacks (9), tackles for loss (15), interceptions (3), passes defensed (6) and forced fumbles (2)...ranked fourth on the team in tackles with 53 and third on the team in solo stops with 40...began his UB career impressively with eight tackles (six solos) and a recovery of a blocked punt at Syracuse (9/2)...was named MAC Player of the Week after his six-tackle, forced fumble, four-sack performance vs. Bowling Green (9/23)...had five tackles, a sack, a pass breakup and an interception he returned 58 yards at MAC champion Marshall (9/30)...had seven tackles, two for loss, at Ohio (10/7)...had six tackles, two for loss and a sack vs. Northern Illinois (10/28)...had sacks in six of 11 games.
Junior College 1997-98: All-Region and All-Conference honors at Vermilion Junior College...117 total tackles for the Ironmen, including 49 solo stops...also had five interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, 14 quarterback sacks, three fumble recoveries, 16 pass breakups and caught a pass for a touchdown...also starred on basketball team, averaging 19 points and 13.5 rebounds pergame and leading the Ironmen to NJCAA championship game...finished as school's all-time leading rebounder...played with teammate Omari Jordan at Vermilion.
High School: Two-year letterwinner and one-year captain for coach Dan Stuckey...set school records for passes caught by a tight end and was an All-City selection...helped lead team to city title and 8-2 record his senior season...also lettered three years in basketball, two years in volleyball and four years in tennis.
