United Football League Teams To Hold Open Tryouts

May 4, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1) News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Tuesday, May 4, 2010 - The United Football League will hold open tryouts through May and June in 12 cities across the country as coaching staff continue to evaluate the nation's player talent pool ahead of the 2010 season.

Head coaches Jim Fassel, Dennis Green, Jay Gruden, Jeff Jagodzinski and Chris Palmer and their coaching staff will host the tryouts between May 8 and June 26. Players can pre-register online at www.ufl-football.com.

The tryouts offer free agents who believe they have the ability to play high-quality professional football an opportunity to make a UFL roster with the Florida Tuskers, Hartford Colonials, Las Vegas Locos, UFL Omaha franchise and Sacramento Mountain Lions.

Each tryout camp will last approximately four hours. Athletes will be timed in the 40-yard dash and 20-yard short shuttle and will then participate in a series of individual and team drills. The tryouts are for all positions, including kickers and punters.

Locos head coach Fassel, whose team held their first open tryouts in Arizona last month, said: "A lot talented players showed up and I was pleasantly surprised. A good number of the guys there had NFL experience and most of them were on NFL practice squads at some point last year. I was very impressed. I plan on bringing a handful of those guys to training camp."

Each team will host a total of three open tryouts in select cities in their geographical region on May 8, 15, 22, and 23 and June 19 and 26. Details of the date, time and location of each tryout can be found on the official UFL website www.ufl-football.com.

Florida Tuskers head coach Jay Gruden will welcome prospective players to Nova Southeastern University in Miami on Saturday, May 8 and to the team's Florida Citrus Bowl home field on Saturday, May 15. The neighboring state of Georgia will host a Tuskers tryout on Saturday, June 27 at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, GA.

The Hartford Colonials kick off their search for talent in Petersburg, VA, at the town's high school under the watchful eye of new head coach Chris Palmer on Saturday, May 8. The Colonials then return to the team's home state of Connecticut where prospective players can try out at Berlin High School (registration and measurements) and Sage Park on Saturday, May 15, and at coach Palmer's alma mater Immaculate High School on Saturday, May 22.

The Las Vegas Locos continue their talent search under head coach Jim Fassel at Cerritos College in Norwalk, in the greater Los Angeles region on Sunday, May 9 then return home to unearth local players at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 15.

Sacramento Mountain Lions head coach Dennis Green will cast his tryouts net across California, starting at Montgomery High School in San Diego on Saturday, May 8 before moving on to Natomas High School in Sacramento on Saturday, May 15. The Mountain Lions search for playing talent concludes at San Mateo Community College on Sunday, May 23.

Omaha head coach Jeff Jagodzinski will announce his team's tryout details on Thursday, May 6.
