UIF's top signal-callers collide in United Bowl IV
Published on July 10, 2008 under United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
The two most prolific quarterbacks in United Indoor Football League history will match talents Saturday when the Bloomington Extreme travels to Sioux Falls (S.D.) to meet the Storm in United Bowl IV at 7:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Arena.
Bloomington's Dusty Burk and Sioux Falls Terrance Bryant are the top two quarterbacks in the career passing yardage. Bryant, who has played one more year in the league than Burk, has thrown for 10,315 yards in four years to rank first.
Burk, who leads the league in average passing yardage this season with 201.5 per game, has amassed 6,443 yards in three seasons.
Bryant, who ranks fourth in the league this season in average passing yardage at 151.3, has led the Storm to three straight United Bowl championships and was the main catalyst behind Sioux Falls professional football record 43-game winning streak, which was snapped earlier this season.
The left-handed Bryant also tops the UIF career charts in most completions (974) and touchdown passes (192). Burk is second with 574 completions and 120 touchdowns.
This season Burk has completed 236 of 386 passes for 2,620 yards and 47 touchdowns with only 12 interceptions. Bryant has completed 221 of 344 passes for 2,160 yards and 34 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
Those two aren't the only marquee players in the game that pits the Storm, winner of the West Conference with a 12-3 record against the Extreme, champion of the East Conference with an 8-7 mark.
Kickers Peter Christofilakos of the Extreme and Sioux Falls' Adam Hicks are among top three in the league in career field goals made, field goal attempts and field goal percentage.
Hicks, who booted the game-winning field goal in Sioux Falls victory over Billings in the West Conference finals as time expired, is first among UIF kickers with 106 field goals on 223 attempts in four seasons. He leads the league in scoring among kickers with 141 points this season.
He ranks second in career field goal percentage with a 47.5 mark, while Christofilokas is third at 46.5 percent. Christofilakos, voted the league's Special Teams Player of the Year this season, ranks third all-time in the UIF in field goals made (72) and attempts (155).
Christofilakos is second behind Hicks in scoring among kickers with 128 points this season. He has made 22 of 41 field goals for 53.7 percent, while Hicks is 25 of 51 for 49 percent.
Bloomington wide receiver James Walton enters the contest as the No. 3 receiver in UIF history with 48 touchdown receptions and needs only five to surpass Chad Spencer as the all-time leader.
Walton ranks second in receiving in the league this season with a team record 1,079 yards. He has 27 touchdown receptions among his 84 catches in 14 games.
The Extreme defense is led by lineman Quince Holman with 5.1 tackles per game, which ranks ninth in the league. Sioux Falls' leading tackler is Mark Blackburn with 5.3 stops per game to rank eighth.
The Storm's Cory Johnson-Lehr and Jermaine Petty are the top two defenders in the league in sacks and tackles for loss. Sioux Falls ranks third in the UIF in points allowed this season at 34.3, while the Extreme is sixth at 44.1.
Sioux Falls averages 45.1 points on offense to rank second with the Extreme third at 43.4.
Bloomington and Sioux Falls met twice during the regular season with the Storm earning a 50-37 victory in the season-opener at U.S. Cellular Coliseum and a 49-41 triumph in Sioux Falls in the final game.
The Storm is undefeated in eight playoff games, while the Extreme are 2-1. Bloomington is winless in two games in Sioux Falls Arena.
Two former members of the Extreme, defensive lineman Rachman Crable and linebacker Dominic Payne, play for Sioux Falls this season.
Gorman added to all-star roster
Bloomington Extreme offensive lineman Jamarcus Gorman has been added to the East roster for the UIF All-Star game July 19 in Sioux City. That brings the total to a dozen Extreme players who have been selected to play in the contest.
Bloomington's other all-stars are Eric Johnson, James Temple, Andre Raymond, Keith Brooks, Justin Montgomery, Terrill Mayberry, Marvin Campbell, Burk, Christofilakos, Walton and Holman.
