Omaha, NE - The United Indoor Football (UIF) regular season is almost to a close and a few teams that needed must need wins had their wishes granted this past weekend. Both Ft. Wayne and Evansville were lifted back into the playoff picture with big wins over big teams. The 2006 post season will start on the weekend of July 14 - 16.

In FT. WAYNE FREEDOM 42, OHIO VALLEY GREYHOUNDS 40 - The Freedom (4-9) snapped a nine game losing streak with a big win over the Greyhounds (6-7) this past weekend, 42-40. Saturday night's game ended in dramatic fashion as Doug Daniel saved the day as he hit an 18-yard field goal to leave two seconds left in regulation to give the Freedom a two point lead and the victory. The Hounds were on top the entire first half and much of the third, until the Freedom tied it all up at 27 with 1:22 left in the third session. After that, it was a see-saw battle to see who would have the ball last and a chance to score. The lead changed five times alone in the fourth quarter with 28 combined points scored between the two teams. For the Freedom, Rock Harvey was back to his old ways as he rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown from 22 attempts. He even found time to run up into the stands after his score and propose to his "now" fiancé. Harvey also threw for one touchdown as well. He now has thrown for four on the season from only five pass attempts! QB, Bill Skelton threw for 91-yards and one TD and also rushed for 41-yards and a TD of his own. For the Hounds, Matt Kohn threw for an amazing 276-yards passing and four TD's from 22 of 33 pass attempts. His teammate, Brock Dodrill led all players with 8.5 total tackles on the night. Next week the Freedom have a must need win as they host the Lexington Horsemen (11-2) and the Hounds host the Evansville BlueCats (6-7).

In EVANSVILLE BLUECATS 28, OMAHA BEEF 17 - The Evansville BlueCats (6-7) got their must need victory to keep their playoff dreams alive and dropped the Beef down to a 6-7 record as well. The Beef's only lead came in the third quarter when RJ Rollins had a one-yard run for a score with 38 seconds left in the session. This lead would be short lived as Ton-Ton Luzayadio nailed a 40-yard field goal two minutes into the fourth to give the BlueCats the 18-17 lead; and they never turned back. The BlueCats defense was the leader on the night as they totaled 45 tackles (compared to Omaha's 30), 2 interceptions, one fumble recovery and one pass break-up in the contest. Vernon Turner totaled almost 25 percent of the total defense with 10.5 tackles himself. The Beef was led by RJ Rollins who rushed for 61-yards and one TD from 23 carries. Next week the BlueCats travel to Ohio Valley (6-7) and the Beef head to Sioux City (5-8) for a West Division match-up.

SIOUX FALLS STORM 49, at SIOUX CITY BANDITS 28 - The Storm (13-0) remain perfect as their quest for an undefeated season continues after they beat the Bandits (5-8) for the fourth time this season. As long as the Storm win one out of their last two games, they will secure the number one seed in the playoffs and home field advantage throughout the post season. The Bandits did manage to tie up the game at 7 a piece in the first period of action, but that would be the closest they would come to the lead as the Storm scored 22 points in the second quarter. The Bandits did out score the Storm in the second half, 21-20. Terrance Bryant once again led the Storm offense as he threw for 117-yards from 16 of 23 passing and hit the endzone on four occasion. Marques Smith rushed for two scores and had 58-yards rushing and Matt Holmlund and Casey Veenhof both had a pair of receiving touchdowns. Veenhof now holds the Storm all-time receiving touchdown record with fifty on his career. For the Bandits, Troy Travis threw for 135-yards and two scores. Leading all defensive players was Justin Landis (SFS) who had nine total tackles on the night. Next week the Storm will host the Bloomington Extreme (5-8) and the Bandits welcome the Omaha Beef (6-7).

In ROCK RIVER RAPTORS 37, BLOOMINGTON EXTREME 33 - The Extreme (5-8) almost pulled off the upset as they nearly defeated the Raptors (9-4), 33-37. With eight lead changes in the game, you could smell the playoffs nearing. The Extreme went back and forth with the Raptors the entire first half, until the Raptors finally pulled away and had a 14 point lead going into the final period. The Extreme did not finally score until 5:46 left in the game to put them within seven. Then came a James Cooper interception to give the Extreme the ball once again and another score with 3:15 still left on the clock and the game tied at 30. The Bloomington defense held their ground and Peter Christofilakos was given the chance at a 43-yard field goal and nailed it leaving only 12 seconds left on the clock and put the Extreme up by 3. After the field goal, Christofilakos kicked off to the Raptors only to have Billy Cook return the kick-off for 43-yards and the score, giving the Raptors a 37-33 victory. Terrell Goldsmith rushed for 43-yards and two touchdowns for the Raptors and Ryan Alenbaucher threw for 160-yards and one score as the two of them led the offense. For Bloomington, Reggie Gray had an amazing 133-yards receiving and three touchdowns. Defensively, Brian Ceaser (ROC) led all players with 8.5 tackles and one forced fumble. Next week the Raptors head to Peoria (0-13) and the Extreme travel to Sioux Falls (13-0).

In LEXINGTON HORSEMEN 52, PEORIA ROUGH RIDERS 17 - The Horsemen (11-2) continue their dominance with a win over the Rough Riders (13-0), 52-17. Eddie Eviston was in MVP form as he threw for 205-yards and six touchdowns from only 12 of 19 pass attempts. On the receiving end was Harry Lewis who had 113-yards receiving and three touchdowns from only six catches. His long was 43-yards. Andrew Porter took the snaps for Peoria, and had 143-yards passing from 14 of 33 attempts, but did have three interceptions in his efforts. Dominic Payne led the Peoria defense with 8 solo tackles and one assisted on the night. Next week the Horsemen will travel to take on the Freedom (4-9) of Ft. Wayne and the Rough Riders host the Rock River Raptors (9-4).
