UHL to donate more than $18,000 to VH1 Save The Music Foundation
May 18, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release
LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced on Friday the winner of its Battle of the Bands competition and the amount of money raised for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation through the program. The UHL will be donating $18,534.26 to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, the amount raised from jersey auctions and the gameday silent auctions held at each of the five local Battle of the Bands events. The band Knights of Crisis, representing the local event held by the Bloomington PrairieThunder, won the competition via an online vote by more than 13,000 fans.
"The UHL is proud to make a significant contribution to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation," stated Richard Brosal, UHL President/CEO. "I would like to thank all of the bands and fans who contributed to such a great collaborative project that will ultimately enhance the lives of children across the nation."
Knights of Crisis won the online vote with their song Zamboni Driver. By virtue of winning the grand prize, the band gets the opportunity to perform for music executives in New York City.
"This is an exciting time for the band," stated Dave Raistrick of the Knights of Crisis. "We are honored to be chosen over some really great talent in this competition. We are also very proud to be involved in such an important event that has raised so much money for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. Winning a trip to New York City along with an audition is really just icing on the cake."
Five UHL clubs invited bands from their local area to perform at "UHL Battle of the Bands" home games during the 2006-07 season. Winners from those local competitions competed for the grand prize, which involves meeting and performing for music executives in New York City with the potential of earning a recording contract. The winning band was determined by a week-long online vote where fans voted for one of the five winning local bands after listening to mp3s. In addition to the competition, the home team at each of the games wore special "Battle of the Bands" jerseys that were auctioned off following the events. The jerseys were sponsored by Sony BMC/RCA Records and Netvisability.
The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in America's public schools by restoring music programs in cities across the country, and raising public awareness about the importance of music participation for our nation's youth. Since its inception in 1997, VH1 Save The Music has donated more than $34 million worth of musical instruments to 1,400 public schools in 80 cities, improving the lives of more than 800,000 children.
