UHL players capture bronze at IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- Team USA won the bronze medal on Saturday at the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) InLine Hockey World Championship (Kuopio, Finland) after a 6-0 shutout of the Czech Republic. Five members on the USA Hockey InLine National Team roster played for United Hockey League (UHL) teams during the 2004-2005 season.

Team USA earned victories in the first four games of the World Championship defeating Slovenia, Slovakia, Germany, and Austria by combined score of 31-8. In Friday's semifinal round vs. Sweden, Team USA suffered its only defeat of the tournament losing 6-5 in a shootout. Sweden went on to defeat Finland 4-2 in the gold medal game on Saturday.

Jason Deskins, who played for the Quad City Mallards in 2004-05, netted two goals in the bronze medal game. Deskins finished the tournament with 12 points (9g, 3a) in six games. His nine goals were second most on the team.

Jeff Reynaert appeared in four games in net for Team USA. He had a 3-0-1 record, a 1.94 goals against average, a .943 save percentage, and one shutout in the bronze medal game. His goals against average and save percentage led all goaltenders at the World Championship. Reynaert played for the Quad City Mallards in 2004-05 and was recently selected by the Port Huron Flags in the 2005 UHL Expansion Draft.

Chris Peterson, who appeared in four games for the Flint Generals in 2004-05, tallied 12 points (3g, 9a) in the six-game tournament. His nine assists tied for the team lead.

Geno Parrish added eight points (8 assists) for Team USA. Parrish played for the Danbury Trashers in 2004-05 and is now the property of the Roanoke Valley Vipers.

Derek Kern collected seven points (3g, 4a) in six games. Kern played for the Kansas City Outlaws in 2004-05.

Team USA recorded only the second shutout of the World Championship when they defeated Czech Republic 6-0 in the bronze medal game. They also held the Czech Republic's Ales Hemsky scoreless. Hemsky, who has spent two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers (NHL), was seventh overall in scoring in the World Championship with 17 points (6g, 11a) in just four games played.
