UFL Notes 1-25 Omaha Coaches Coach College All-Stars
Published on January 25, 2011 under United Football League (UFL 1) News Release
Before he takes the field in his first United Football League game in early August, Omaha Nighthawks head coach JOE MOGLIA got his first taste of 2011 head coaching on Sunday, as his Stars squad lost to the Stripes team, 40-34, in the inaugural Eastham Energy All Star Game at Sun Devil Stadium.
"I got a little emotional when I was leading the team from the locker room through the tunnel to the field," said Moglia. "The last time I did something like that was over 20 years ago. Even with my involvement with Nebraska the last couple years, I'm in the coaches' box. For me to be able to do that with my team really was a wonderful experience."
Moglia also said it was inspiring to coach for the first time with two of his Nighthawks staff, offensive coordinator BART ANDRUS and defensive coordinator TOM OLIVADOTTI.
Most recently Andrus was the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts in 2009 and before that was an assistant coach with the Tennessee Titans, whose quarterbacks he coached during the team's Super Bowl XXXIV season. He was the offensive coordinator of the 2000 World Bowl champion Rhein Fire and at the collegiate level was named American Football Quarterly NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1996.
Olivadotti's vast experience includes roles with the Houston Texans (2004-05), New York Giants (2000-03), Minnesota Vikings (1996-99), Miami Dolphins (1987- 1995), and Cleveland Browns (1985-1986) in various positions including defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, and defensive backs coach. His NFL career highlights include reaching the 2000 Super Bowl with the New York Giants, 12 NFL playoff appearances, six divisional titles, and one conference title.
The Eastham Energy College Football All Star Game featured players from the Pac 10, the Southeastern Conference, the Big Ten, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Big East. Proceeds from the game go to benefit Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors and Native American Connections.
