FT. MYERS, FL - When the 2012 season kicked off, most people around the UIFL thought the Florida Tarpons would be a middle of the pack team. However, on the eve of the Ultimate Bowl II, sponsored by Trophy Awards, they are the last of the unbeaten.

The perfect record isn't without outside queries as questions are a bound regarding the schedule.

"We've beat the teams we've played, and that is the only thing we can control each week," said head coach Michael Taylor. "We are aware teams in north played Eastern Kentucky. Now a team from the north has a chance to put us in our place. I like our chances. If Cincinnati blows us out, then everybody was right."

Despite the 12-0 record, it wasn't all smooth sailing for Florida. They changed quarterbacks after week three and had to deal with a couple season-ending injuries. The turning point of the season came following the May 14th victory over Lakeland.

Playing without four players that were invited to NFL Rookie Camps, the undermanned Tarpons walked out with the 57-42 victory.

"That was probably our most rewarding win," said Taylor. "When we beat them up there, it was pretty evident (we were going undefeated)."

Quarterback Chris Wallace, who took over in the fourth game, stabilized the offense. He threw 58 touchdowns with just five interceptions in nine games. He completed 58.7 percent (135-of-230) of his passes for 1,850 yards. He had two targets - Carlos Singleton and Donald Fusilier - that played all 11 games for the Tarpons. They combined for 121 receptions and 51 touchdowns for unbeaten Florida.

UIFL South Defensive Player of the Year Terrance Jones leads the team with 11 interceptions and was second with 41 tackles.

The Ultimate Bowl 2 is on Monday July 2nd at Germain Arena in Estero, FL. Kickoff is 7:30pm and the doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Germain Arena Box Office.
