Two Winners Emerge in eBay Auction

SCHAUMBURG, IL- A longtime Schaumburg Flyers fan and a 20-year old journalism student at Texas Tech University emerged on Thursday as the winners of the Schaumburg Flyers' play-by-play auction conducted on eBay.

Joseph Sergio, 20, of Mansfield, TX will call the first two thirds of the season over flyersbaseball.com after family members placed a combined high bid of $6,402 for a pair of 32-game blocks.

Mark Zajicek of Schaumburg will take over in early August for the stretch drive and any potential playoff games after placing a bid of $3,050. Zajicek, 48, attended the inaugural Flyers game on May 28, 1999 and has followed the team faithfully ever since.

The ten-day auction concluded at 1:00 PM CST on Thursday, February 9. Portions of the bidding proceeds will be donated to the Alexian Brothers Health System Foundation. The Schaumburg Flyers will open their eighth season of Northern League baseball on Thursday, May 18 with Sergio behind the microphone.

FLYERSFEST COMING UP ON FEB. 19 The annual FlyersFest off-season fan party is set for Sunday, February 19 at the Eaglewood Resort in Itasca. Manager Andy McCauley & Hitting Coach Bobby Bell are among those scheduled to appear.

LHP Derrick Ellison and RHP Matt Schweitzer have been added to the pitching staff. Ellison, 27, split last season between the Rockford RiverHawks (Frontier League) and Class A Inland Empire in the Seattle organization. He resides in Leesburg, VA. Schweitzer, 27, has spent his first six pro seasons at Richmond, IN in the independent Frontier League. He is a native of McHenry County.

The Flyers have also signed rookie 2B Cameron Clarke to a 2006 contract. Clarke, 24, is the latest Schaumburg signee from the highly regarded baseball program at Oklahoma City University. He follows in the footsteps of Justin Hendrickson, Mario Delgado and others. Clarke also comes from Australia as a resident of Geelong West, Victoria. The infielder is the first Schaumburg signee from Down Under since Klae Calvert pitched for the team in 1999. Clarke bats and throws right-handed.
