
Two Former Tornado Players Sign Amateur Tryout Contracts in AHL

Frisco, TX - Brett Blatchford and Tyler Ludwig both signed AHL ATO contracts this past week. Blatchford played three years for the Tornado from 2003-2006 while Ludwig played from 2002-2006. Blatchford and Ludwig both won three national championships during their time as a Tornado.
Former Western Michigan defenseman Tyler Ludwig signed an amateur tryout contract with Texas Stars of the American Hockey League on Wednesday morning.
The Texas Stars are an affiliate of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League, a team Ludwig's father, Craig, spent eight seasons with and won a Stanley Cup with in 1999.
A native of Colleyville, Tex., but born in Rinelander, Wis., Ludwig appeared in 152 games during his four seasons with the Broncos. He amassed 16 goals and 53 assists from the blue-line and finished his career with a plus-five plus/minus rating.
A four-time CCHA Defenseman of the Week, Ludwig captained the hockey team during his final two years and was also the team's top-scoring defenseman during those seasons. Carrying a 3.65 GPA in finance, he is WMU's CCHA Scholar Athlete of the Year nominee for this year.
Ludwig joins his twin brother, Trevor, a defenseman, on the Stars.
The Chicago Wolves have signed defenseman Brett Blatchford to an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO).
Blatchford completed his senior campaign with the University of Notre Dame last weekend, when the Fighting Irish fell to Ohio State in the first round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs. He collected a career-high four goals, 19 points and 43 penalty minutes in 38 outings during his fourth CCHA season.
The 23-year-old blue-liner posted a career-high 25 assists in 40 outings during his junior year in 2008-09. Overall, he collected 67 assists, 73 points and 101 penalty minutes in 153 contests spanning four season from 2006 to 2010.
Prior to attending Notre Dame, the Temperance, Mich., native spent three seasons with the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League, recording 73 assists, 81 points and 78 penalty minutes in 142 outings from 2003 to 2006.
