Two For Tori Send Tampa Bay Soaring Past The Charlotte Lady Eagles

Charlotte, NC - Tori Abnathy finishes two goals to give VSI Tampa Bay FC the 2-1 win over the Charlotte Lady Eagles in Queens Sports Complex on Saturday June 22.

Lady Eagle Macky Wingo opened the match early with a goal in the seventh minute of play. Midfielder Leah Fortune found Wingo with a through ball; Wingo worked her way through the defense to deliver the first goal of the match. 

Eagles' keeper Robyn Jones didn't see action until Sharla Passarielo struck one at her in the 21' causing Jones to dive to save the potential goal. VSI Tampa Bay FC were given their next best opportunity from a handball just outside the box in the 32'. The ball sailed over the net and the Eagles remained ahead of VSI by one until the 43' when Tori Abnathy found the corner of Jones' net equalizing the game for VSI Tampa Bay FC just before halftime. 

In the 66' a composed Abnathy beat Jones in a one on one breakaway to score the second goal of the match, tallying two for VSI.  

Abnathy on her two goals, "I worked extra on shooting this week which paid off. Overall we were determined as a team not to drive nine hours without a win!"

VSI keeper Morgan Crescent came up big in the final minute of the match saving a threating ball to ensure VSI the 2-1 win. 

VSI Head Coach George Fotopoulos was pleased to be returning to Tampa with the win. Fotopoulos had this to say of the match, "This was a very hard fought game and I am very proud of our young team to pull out this win."

The much needed win moves VSI up to 7 points with an overall record of 2-5-1. The Lady Eagles remain just above VSI in the Southeastern Conference Standings with 9 points and an overall record of 3-3-0.

VSI W-League return home to take time off before hitting the road again on Friday, July 12 to face the Atlanta Lady Silverbacks in Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
