
Twins To Select Contract of Keppel, Designate Ayala

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they will select the contract of right-handed pitcher Bobby Keppel from Triple-A Rochester in time for Tuesday night's game at Milwaukee. In 23 appearances (three starts) for the Red Wings this season, Keppel was 3-3, 2.43 (55.2 ip, 15 er) with one save, allowing 51 hits with 13 walks and 28 strikeouts. He was signed by the Twins as a free agent on December 15, 2008. Keppel will wear uniform number 44.
To make room for Keppel on the 25-man roster, the Twins will designate right-handed pitcher Luis Ayala for assignment. In 28 appearances for the Twins this season, Ayala was 1-2, 4.18 (32.1 ip, 15 er), allowing 38 hits with eight walks and 21 strikeouts.
