Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 3/29/09 - In their season opener for 2009 arenafootball2 campaign, the Amarillo Dusters lost 76-29 to the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz at the Amarillo Civic Center Sunday afternoon.

From the beginning, Amarillo was out to a rocky start, after Dusters starting quarterback MATT BASSUENER was tackled in the back of his own end zone by the Dawgz' COLLIN BRYANT. With the score 2-0 after the safety, Oklahoma city took their ensuing possession and scored on a two-play, 21-yard drive capped off by a FREDDIE ROLLINS run to make the score 9-0 following the extra point.

Amarillo struck immediately afterwards, with Bassuener rushing into the end zone on a bootleg to his left, pushing the Dusters back to within two. The touchdown would be the hosts' first and last in the initial quarter, as Oklahoma City scored on an AL HUNT touchdown reception and an AGIM SHABAJ scoring grab before the second quarter to put the Yard Dawgz up 23-7.

Following an Amarillo turnover, the Dawgz scored again with 8:45 left in the second quarter, with Rollins rolling into the end zone from three yards out to put OKC up 30-7. ALEX WATSON answered for the Dusters with a six yard touchdown reception, but Hunt retaliated with a 21-yard touchdown catch to put Oklahoma City back up by 23.

The teams would exchange touchdowns and field goals to conclude the first half, setting the score at 47-23 with the Yard Dawgz leading at halftime.

Amarillo could only muster a third-quarter CRAIG FULTON, JR. touchdown in the second half, as the Yard Dawgz forced three Dusters turnovers in the second half to pull away. Touchdown receptions by Rollins and Hunt, as well as two touchdown runs by Oklahoma City quarterback ROBERT KENT would add to the Yard Dawgz' final lead.

Kent finished with 19/25 passing for 311 yards and six touchdowns through the air in addition to his two rushing touchdowns. Meanwhile, Fulton Jr. led the Dusters offensively, collecting 121 yards receiving and a touchdown on 11 receptions.
