Trout and About Event Recap

June 5, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga Steelheads News Release

May was an exciting month for the Mississauga Steelheads as it kicked off the summer for Sauga and the "Travelling Trout" events team, who will be 'Trout and About' getting involved in various community events across Mississauga and the GTA.

The first stop of summer 2014 for the Travelling Trout was at the annual King's Masting Public School Fun Fair on May 9. The evening consisted of a BBQ and raffle/auction table, and provided the King's Masting community with an opportunity to get together in a fun environment while raising funds for the school.

The Travelling Trout's next stop was on May 10 at Police and Community Fun Day held by our friends and long time supporters, the Peel Regional Police. Sauga made his first appearance of the summer having fun with kids and families as they supported the Police with campaigns such as "Cops for Cancer" and "Prescription Drug Drop-off Day". Sauga, along with fellow event-goers, had a blast cooling off some officers at the Police Dunk tank!

Sauga was then spotted at the Tecumseh Public School Spring Fair on May 23 alongside Steelheads first round selection Michael McLeod! McLeod's first public appearance after joining the Steelheads family was a special one as he visited his former elementary school, taking pictures and signing autographs while the students of Tecumseh P.S. gave him a run for his money in the Steelheads inflatable target shooter!

Next, the Travelling Tout spent time with our friends and sponsors at Interstate All Battery Center on May 24 as they held a grand opening for their newest store at 3077 Mavis Road. Fans and customers were able to spend the day with Sauga and special guests Steelheads forward Josh Burnside and goalie Spencer Martin.

That same day the Steelheads took part in Carassauga helping celebrate Mississauga's rich Multicultural community. Forwards Jesse Barwell and Damian Bourne took part in the Carassauga Community Challenge at the Hershey Sports Complex as it hosted pavilions for Africa, Croatia, Canada, India, Korea, Lebanon, and Philippines. It seemed fitting to have our Scholastic Player of the Year award winners from the past two years on hand, as the Carassauga representatives put their knowledge to the test throughout the challenge!

May 25 saw the Travelling Trout and Sauga take part in the 2014 Mississauga MS Walk. The walk is an annual event held at Mississauga Celebration Square at City Hall as a fundraiser to support programs that seek to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis, and improve the lives of people that live with MS. Sauga was there cheering on all the participants as they made it to the finish line!

Sauga and Travelling Trout were back at Celebration Square the following day on May 26 to support the 8th annual Bike to Work Day. The Travelling Trout were joined by local school students, councilors, and the Honourable Mayor Hazel McCallion who all came together to support cycling as a healthy, fun, and environmentally friendly alternative for travelling around Mississauga.

On May 30, the Travelling Trout were spotted at the St. Christopher Separate School Fun Fair. With Sauga and the inflatable shooting gallery on hand, the Travelling Trout were there to support the exciting festivities and events that the school had for its students as well as their families.

Sauga and the Travelling Trout closed out the month of May with an appearance at the Peel Regional Police 25th annual 11 Division Open house on May 31st. Sauga was there once again supporting the Police as visitors took part in activities such as jail photos, tours, and games.

Along with appearing at events in the community this summer, the Steelheads will be giving fans the chance to win either 4 tickets to a 2014-15 Steelheads home game or a night in one of our corporate suites (12 people) by filling out an entry form for a draw. Winners for the 4-ticket prize are drawn after each event the Steelheads attend while the draw for a night in the corporate suite takes place at the end of each month.

Congratulations to our Summer Draw winners for the month of May!

Daniela Ferraro (Police and Community Fun Day) Charlene Nicoll (Tecumseh Public School Spring Fair) Sogol Gaffari (Interstate All Battery Centre Grand Opening) David Bartman (St. Christopher Separate School Fun Fair) Patricia Graper (Peel Police 11 Division Open House)
