
Tropics name head coach and general manager

Miami, FL. Art "Pilin" Alvarez, team president of the American Basketball Association (ABA)Miami Tropics, has announced the appointment of Ed Auricchio to the position of head basketball coach. Upon the completion of his collegiate career at Rutgers University in 1978, Auricchio spent twenty years within the business community before returning to the sidelines in 1997. Alvarez and Auricchio have teamed together in the past for form a very formidable basketball duo.
At Miami Christian School in 2002, they lead the Victors to an FHSAA state championship, a USA top ten national ranking and a record for wins in a season (38) for the state of Florida. Their two year won-lost mark stood at 60-8.
In the summer of 2002, they created the Miami Tropics travel team, an AAU club which traveled the country playing at the 17 and under level. After a two season mark of 56-8, Auricchio was asked to take over the helm of another Nike sponsored travel team, the South Florida Heat, who compiled a 64-34 record during his tenure. In the past nine years, 39 of his players have signed Division I NCAA scholarships and 45 have gone on to compete at the college level.
In addition, Alvbarez has announced the appointment of South Florida commercial real estate owner and invetor Leo Goughan as General Manager of the organization.
