
Tropics ink seven to contracts, four more to follow

Miami, FL. ABA Miami Tropics team president Art Alvarez announced the signings of seven players to the roster of the team for the inaugural 2006-2007 season. The seven were elected during the first week of veterans camp and will participate in the final weeks camp.
The players are Andre Smith, Sylbrin Robinson, Al Harris, Karel Rosario, Terence Shelman, Eric Wilkins and Rodrigue Djahue. They join former Puerto Rican Superior League MVP Carlos Escalera to those who have signed their deals.
Smith and Robinson starred locally in high school before finishing sold NCAA basketball careers. Smith led UNC Asheville to a victory in the 2003 NCAA tournament scoring 28 points before bowing out in the second round to Texas. Robinson finished among the career rebounding leaders at Northeastern University where he played along side current Dallas Mavericks rookie Jose Juan Barea.
Wilkins and Djahue recently finished four year careers at the University of Miami, having appeared in both the NCAA and NIT post season tournaments.
Rosario and Harris both played NCAA Division I for Florida International University. Harris coming after a brief stint at Seton Hall in New Jersey. Both have ample experience having played pro ball in South America.
Shelman returns to the ABA after being one of the leading scorers and rebounders for the Florida ABA team during the 2005-2006 season. The team has offered contracts to four other players and should have their complete roster signed within the next week. The Tropics open the season on November 11th at the UCA on the campus of NOVA Southeastern University in Davie. Tickets are currently on sale through www.miamitropics.com or visit www.abalive.com.
