Toros Clinch GBL Southern Division Title With 5-4 Victory

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros will head to the playoffs after clinching the GBL Southern Division second half title with a 5-4 win over first round opponent St. George Saturday night.
The Roadrunners jumped out to an early lead with with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning against Tucson starter Vince Davis, but the Toros bounced back with a run in each of the next four innings to hold a 4-2 after four frames. Davis settled in after the first to post his third straight quality start, limiting St. George to 3 runs (2 earned) in 6 2/3 innings of work while striking out 6. The start was the 8th straight for Davis in which he allowed 3 or fewer earned runs.
Each team added a run, with Tucson mainting a 2-run lead heading into the 9th with a score of 5-3. Tucson closer Reid Price entered in the 9th to close it out. St. George LF Ruddy Yan hit a solo shot to center to cut the lead to 1 run, but Price was able lock down his 11th save of the season, solidifying Tucson's playoff spot in their first GBL season.
Tucson will face St. George in the first round of the GBL playoffs in a best of five series starting on the road in St. George for Game 1 on Wednesday and Game 2 on Thursday. The Toro's will then return home to Hi Corbett Field for Game 3 on Friday, September 4th at 7:00 p.m. If necessary, Games 4 & 5 would take place at Hi Corbett Field on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Playoff tickets will go on sale for Game 3 tomorrow Sunday, August 30th at 10:00 a.m. All other potential playoff games will go onsale once they are necessary. Ticket prices and seating remain the same as the regular season.
Even though they clinched Sunday, the Toros will wrap up the regular season on Monday at Hi Corbett Field at 7:00 p.m when Toros position player Skip Adams will attempt to play all 9 defensive positions.
