Toronto Rock News Release
TORONTO - The Toronto Rock continue the 2009 season after a week off with a cross-border road trip this weekend to face the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, January 31st. Ball drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
The Rock (1-2) look for their second win of the season with a brand new coaching staff behind the bench. Former Colorado Mammoth and Chicago Shamrox coach, Jamie Batley took over the role of Toronto Rock head coach last week along with assistant coaches Jim Milligan and Bob Keast.
"We're here to motivate each individual and pull out their different strengths," said Batley of his coaching staff. "There is a lot of experience and talent on this team."
Lewis Ratcliff (5 goals, 9 assists) and Jason Crosbie (3 goals, 11 assists) lead the Rock in points with 14 each. The two were responsible for a third of Rock goals scored in Toronto's last game, a 14-9 loss to the Calgary Roughnecks on January 17th at home.
The Rochester Knighthawks (0-4) have had a rough start to the 2009 season. Battling to a one-goal decision, Rochester dropped their fourth game in a row to the New York Titans, 8-7 last Saturday night.
With five goals and 14 assists, Shawn Williams is the player to watch on the Knighthawks this season. Williams has blown ahead of the rest of the Rochester players with 19 points compared to teammate Gary Gait who is ranked second with nine.
In all-time meetings at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, Toronto falls 14-1 to the Knighthawks. The last and only win the Rock has in Rochester is the 2003 NLL Championship game when Toronto hoisted the cup after an 8-6 victory. The Knighthawks trumped the Rock in 2008 meetings taking both games by scores of 11-4 and 9-6.
