Texas Tornado News Release
After having the previous weekend off for the Top Prospects Tournament, the Texas Tornado took their first trip of the season to Amarillo Civic Center last weekend, and it did not go as planned. After a 7-3 loss on Friday, the Tornado were beat by the Bulls the next night by a 5-3 margin. Jack Prince did have three goals and an assist on the weekend while Marc Biggs picked up two goals and a helper, as well. In the midst of a six-game road trip, the Tornado will be in Topeka for two games this weekend.
Friday, February 24th- Tornado knocked off by Amarillo, 7-3
The Texas Tornado yielded three power-play goals in the first period, along with 51 total shots on goal in a 7-3 loss at the hands of the Amarillo Bulls on Friday night. Marc Biggs had a pair of goals sandwiched around a marker from Jack Prince, but Bulls goaltender Mike Taffe stopped 30 of 33 shots in goal in the Bulls victory. Hunter Leisner saw a total 40 shots in his two periods of work before Joakim Jutras came in to start the third period. The Tornado drew to within two goals on three separate occasions, but Amarillo broke the game open with two goals in the third period.
Saturday, February 25th- Tornado downed by Bulls, 5-3, in fourth straight loss
A third-period comeback was too much for the Texas Tornado, who lost to the Amarillo Bulls by a score of 5-3 on Saturday. Jack Prince picked up the league lead in goals with his 34 th and 35 th of the season, while Drew Allen added a goal of his own. Hunter Leisner started in net for the second straight night and stopped 35 of 40 shots in the game. With the loss, the Tornado losing streak now sits at four games, with all of those losses coming against Amarillo. Texas had a 3-2 lead heading into the third period, but three unanswered Bulls goals gave Amarillo the 5-3 victory.
Upcoming Games and Promotions
March is a busy month for the Tornado, one which includes four regular season home games and our Pros vs. Prospects game. The team's next home games are March 16th and 17th against the New Mexico Mustangs and will be Skate to a Cure weekend. The Tornado will also be wearing specialty jerseys which will be auctioned off following Saturday night's game. A portion of those proceeds will be donated to Frisco Relay for Life, as will a portion of the proceeds from the weekend's ticket sales. Then, on March 18th, the Tornado will be holding its sixth Pros vs. Prospects event. Pros vs. Prospects is a chance for the Tornado to play against various former NHLers at Dr Pepper Arena. The game-worn jerseys from each former pro will be auctioned off following the game, with a portion of those proceeds to be donated to the Dallas Stars Alumni Association. This year's list includes former Stars such as Jere Lehtinen and Ed Belfour, so make sure you're there to see it.
