Tornado Weekly, March 28th

March 28, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Texas Tornado News Release

The Texas Tornado played its final road games of the season last weekend, with games at AmericanBank Center in Corpus Christi. The Tornado have struggled against the IceRays this season, especially in Corpus Christi, where the IceRays came into the weekend with a 4-0-1 record against Texas. They went on to take three of a possible four points from the IceRays over the weekend, with an overtime loss on Friday followed by a strong win on Saturday. With two games remaining in the regular season, Texas and Topeka are tied for second place in the South, with the Roadrunners holding the tiebreaker. If these standings hold, Topeka would hold home-ice advantage over Texas in the first round of the playoffs.

Friday, March 23rd- Tornado downed 5-4 in back-and-forth affair

Though they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, the Texas Tornado were defeated in a shootout by the Corpus Christi IceRays by a final score of 5-4 at AmericanBank Center on Friday. Skyler Spiller, Marc Biggs, and Alex Temby all had goals for Texas, while Jackson Leef scored for the third time in as many games. Hunter Leisner made 18 of 22 saves, but Anthony Stolarz saw 42 shots and got the win for Corpus Christi. Texas picked up early goals from both Spiller and Biggs, but three unanswered goals gave Corpus Christi the lead and forced the Tornado to play catch-up. Leef's goal tied the score late in the third, but Beau Walker's shootout winner gave the IceRays the victory.

Saturday, March 24th - Dominating performance gives Texas 6-2 win in road finale

The Texas Tornado closed out its road portion of their regular season with a 6-2 victory over the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at AmericanBank Center on Saturday. Jack Prince had a pair of goals, while he was joined in the goal column by Jordan Greenberg, Jackson Leef, Mitch McPherson, and Jordan Lovick . Hunter Leisner got the start in net and made 22 saves for the win. The Tornado outshot the IceRays by a margin of 35-24, including 19-7 in the third period. Meanwhile, Prince now leads the league with 39 goals, while his assist tied him with former Tornado player Brad Cooper for the all-time Tornado lead.

Upcoming Games and Promotions

It may be hard to believe, but the final two home games of the regular season are already upon us. After two games on the road in Corpus Christi, both teams are back in action at Dr Pepper Arena for the FAN-tastic Finale, coming up on March 30th and 31st. The Tornado will have plenty of giveaways from our sponsors, as we put a bow on the 2011-2012 regular season. But don't forget, the Tornado have already clinched a playoff spot and will be announcing dates for playoff games when the regular season concludes on Sunday. And of course, there's still the Robertson Cup National Championship Tournament, which will be hosted at Dr Pepper Arena from May 3rd-May 8th.
