Texas Tornado News Release

GAME HAPPENINGS:

CHESTERFIELD, Missouri -- The Texas Tornado traveled to Missouri this weekend to play the first two games of their opening playoff series against the defending champion St. Louis Bandits and came back home with a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five series.

In Friday night's game the Bandits took an early 2-0 lead after just ten minutes of play. A powerplay goal by JD Howard cut the lead in half, however, at the 15:19 mark of the first period.

Shortly into the second period, Nick Taurence scored an even-strength goal, tying the game up at 2-2.

In the final seconds of the period with the game appearing to head to the second intermission in a tie, Howard scored his second of the game with just :03 left in the frame to put the Tornado up 3-2.

St. Louis poured the shots on in the final period, getting 15 on net, but the Tornado defense and goaltending held the lead to close out their 3-2 victory.

In Saturday's game, it was the Tornado that took the first lead of the game.

At 8:16 in the second period, JD Howard scored his third goal of the series to give the Tornado a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, Shane Sooth netted a goal, his third of the season, to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bandits would score a goal of their own in the third period, but a Jack Prince empty-netter in the final minutes of the game would close out the Tornado victory at 3-1.

JD Howard scored three goals and registered one assist over the weekend. Shane Sooth registered three total points with one goal and two assists.

Dan Sullivan saved 76 of 79 shots over the weekend.

The Tornado will host the third and fourth (if necessary) games of the series Wednesday and Thursday night at 7:00 pm at Dr Pepper Arena as they try to close out the series.
