September 29, 2010 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Texas Tornado News Release
Texas Tornado Head Coach Tony Curtale announced today four separate player transactions that have been completed within the last 48 hours. They include the following:
Texas Tornado defenseman Erick Ware was traded to the Kenai River Brown Bears for forward Josh Royston (6'1/190). Royston, 20, is originally from Mason, Michigan and was currently in his second season with Kenai River. In 2009-10, Royston scored 18 goals with the Brown Bears, ranking 3rd on the team in that catagory.
Texas Tornado defenseman Joe Adams has been traded to the Owatonna Express for a 2010-11 NAHL tender and a 2011 NAHL 3rd round draft pick.
Texas Tornado forward Tyler Underhill has been traded to the Aberdeen Wings for a 2010-11 NAHL tender.
The Texas Tornado have acquired forward Nathan Sliwinski (5'9/160) from the Wenatchee Wild for a 2010-11 NAHL tender and financial considerations. Sliwinski, 20, is originally from Castle Rock, Colorado and scored 32 points in 52 games played last year with the Wild. He had two points in four games played so far this season for the Wild.
Texas Tornado Head Coach Tony Curtale summed up the moves with the following comments:
On Josh Royston: "I like his size and he is a proven scorer in this league. He will bring a veteran presence to the lockerroom and add depth to a second scoring line."
On Nathan Sliwinski: "We have been watching him for some time now. I was very impressed with his season last year and he competes very hard. He is a veteran, so he knows what it takes to score in this league and he can create offense for his teammates."
On Erick Ware: "Erick is a great kid and works very hard. He has Division I potential and he needs a chance to display that talent more. We simply had too many left-handed defenseman who play the same way. We needed some more depth at the forward position, so Royston was a good player for trade in that regard. He is a vet and a proven scorer."
On Joe Adams: "Again, another great kid. When a coach has to trade a player he likes away, it is always one of the toughest things to do. However, he needs a chance to play everyday and because of the depth we have on defense, he wasn't getting that chance. I feel like Owatonna will be a good place for him with exposure to many Division I scouts."
On Tyler Underhill: "We had to get more depth for a second scoring line. So, with the additions of Royston and Sliwinski, I had to make some more decisions about the kind of player we needed to make that happen. In the end I think Underhill can really help a new team like Aberdeen and in return we have added two veteran players who are proven scorers."
