Texas Tornado News Release
The Texas Tornado losing streak hit a season-high three games on Wednesday night as the Amarillo Bulls defeated Texas 4-1 at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. The lone Tornado goal was scored by Ralfs Freibergs on the power play. The Tornado will next host the Corpus Christi IceRays on Saturday, November 27th at 7:30pm. Tickets for the game are still available by calling the Tornado office at 972-335-9800 or online at www.tornadohockey.com . Saturday is Park Place Dealerships Tornado Hat Night. The first 2,000 fans will receive a FREE Tornado hat courtesy of Park Place Dealerships.
Amarillo started the scoring less than three minutes into the game while they were killing a penalty, as Dan McDougall sent a wrist shot from 120 feet that snuck between Tornado starting goaltender Jimmy Kruger's equipment and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The fluke goal got Kruger pulled in favor of Jake Stafford. Stafford didn't fair much better as a breakaway goal from Chris Cass gave the Bulls a 2-0 lead after one period despite a 9-7 shot advantage for the Tornado.
The 2nd period wasn't much better for Texas, who failed to convert on four power plays in the period. Amarillo made it 3-0 just over a minute into the period as a shot from the point went over the eluded Stafford's shoulder. Amarillo made it 4-0 just over a minute later as another goal from the point from a defenseman, the third of the night by an Amarillo dman, as Karl Beckman's wrist shot was tipped past Stafford. The Tornado had a goal waived off in the period by a quick whistle, but did not hide the fact that the Tornado have now been outscored 11-1 in their last four 2nd periods.
The 3rd period wasn't much better for Texas, who had eight power plays in the period alone, but only converted on one, a 5 on 3 goal from Ralfs Freibergs. In the end, it was the goaltending by Bulls netminder Nikifor Szczerba that was the difference and the ineffectiveness of the Tornado power play, which went an ice cold 1 for 14 for the game.
