Top Five Unchanged for Second Straight Week in AFL vPower Rankings

July 1, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release

CHICAGO - For the ninth consecutive week, the Arizona Rattlers (12-2) remain atop the Arena Football vPower Rankings, as tabulated on AFLFieldPass.com.

A bye week did not hurt the defending ArenaBowl champions in Week 15, who will get back on the field this week in "NET10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday" action on CBS Sports Network against the Orlando Predators (5-9). The Rattlers dominated Orlando, 82-42, earlier this season in Phoenix. The rematch could have significant playoff implications for both teams, as Orlando is looking to maintain their position as the fourth seed in the American Conference, while Arizona could lock up the West Division with a win and losses by the San Jose SaberCats (10-4) and Spokane Shock (10-4). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The No. 2-ranked Philadelphia Soul (9-5) clinched a playoff berth and the East Division crown for the second consecutive season last week, knocking off the Cleveland Gladiators (2-12), 66-57, in Week 15. The win secured Philadelphia a home game in the first round of the 2013 AFL Playoffs. The Soul host the Chicago Rush (8-6) in Week 16. The Rush had a bye in Week 15 and will be looking to keep pace with the resurgent San Antonio Talons (8-6) to maintain the top spot in the Central Division. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Coming in at No. 3 are the Spokane Shock, who did not play in Week 15 due to a bye week. Spokane will travel to the Tampa Bay Times Forum this week to square off with the Tampa Bay Storm in a rematch of their Week 6 showdown on CBS Sports Network. Tampa Bay edged the Shock, 70-62, in their first meeting in April. Kickoff for the rematch is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The San Jose SaberCats (10-4) knocked off the Utah Blaze (5-9), 57-49, to maintain the No. 4 spot in this week's vPower Rankings. The SaberCats can clinch their second consecutive postseason berth this weekend with a win over San Antonio, a squad they defeated, 47-42, all the way back on opening weekend this season. Kickoff is set for 10:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The Jacksonville Sharks (10-5) earned their sixth straight win over the in-state rival Predators in Week 15 and head into their bye week ranked No. 5 in the vPower Rankings. With a postseason spot already in their possession, the Sharks will return to action in Week 17 to face the Spokane Shock in "Deaf Valley".
