
Tides Pull Away from Knights

FORT MILL, S.C. - July 8, 2009 - The Norfolk Tides continue to have the Charlotte Knights number. The Tides turned back the Knights on Wednesday night with a 5-1 win.
Tides All-Star pitcher Chris Tillman (7-5, 2.50) held the Knights in check striking out 6 batters in 6 innings of work and holding Charlotte without a run. Kelvin Jimenez (3-3, 4.25), with a spot start for Charlotte, took the loss.
After a sacrifice fly by Blake Davis in the top of the 2nd gave the Tides a 1-0 lead, Norfolk's Jeff Fiorentino collected his third hit of the night in the 5th, with an RBI single to center scoring Robby Hammock, making it 2-0. Fiorentino went 4-5 on the night with one RBI.
The Tides then added two more with Joey Gaithright's RBI double off the center field wall in the top of the 6th to make it a 5-0 game.
Cole Armstrong scored the Knights only run on Brent Lillibridge's RBI single in the 7th.
The teams will conclude their series on Thursday. Bartolo Colon (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to make a rehab start with the Knights. LHP Troy Patton (1-2, 4.43) will take the mound for the Tides. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
