Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release

FRISCO, TX (Monday, November 24th, 2008) - After winning his tenth game of the season and earning his first shutout in two years, Mahoning Valley Phantoms goaltender Jordan Tibbett was named the GDI / NAHL Goalie of the Week on Monday.

Tibbett played both of the Phantoms' games this weekend as Mahoning Valley swept the US National Team in a two-game home-and-home series,

The award marks the second time this season that Tibbett (10-2-0) has won the award on the 2008-2009 campaign.

"It's always a great honor to be Goalie of the Week," says Tibbett, "but I can't take all the credit for it. I got a lot of great defensive help from both the forwards and the defense."

Tibbett secured his first shutout in his two years as a Phantom by stopping 23 US National Team shots on Friday night at the Chevrolet Centre as the Phantoms improved to 3-0-0 at their new home. Tibbett said the shutout was good on both a personal level and a team level.

"It really helps you out stats-wise and confidence-wise," says the 18-year-old native of Indianapolis, IN, "but I think it was even more important for our team to get a big win [Friday night]."

The second-year Phantoms netminder is in third place league-wide with a 1.89 goals against average and a 92.9% save percentage. His ten wins are tied for the league lead with three other goalies.

Tibbett also won the Goalie of the Week award on September 22nd after going 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average at the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, MN. He is the only goalie to win the award twice so far this season.

He was joined in the weekly honors by his teammate, rookie forward Brandon Saad, who was named honorable mention for the Sherwood NAHL North Division Player of the Week award. Saad had two power play goals in Saturday's 6-5 win, plus the decisive shootout-winning goal.

Tibbett, Saad and the rest of the Phantoms open the NAHL North Division Showcase on Friday night with a first-place showdown with the Traverse City North Stars; the two teams are tied atop the North Division with 28 points each. The game is scheduled for a 7:15 PM puck drop at the Chevrolet Centre.

The game will be broadcast locally on ESPN Radio 1240, WBBW-AM, and worldwide at MVPPhantoms.com via B2 Networks. The pregame show will begin at 7:00 PM.

Phantoms season tickets and individual game tickets are on sale now at the Phantom Box Office at the Ice Zone in Boardman. Call (330) 965-7500 for more information.
