Minnesota Thunder News Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Monday, September 12, 2005) - The Minnesota Thunder announced today that it will be hosting a LIVE watch party on Wednesday, September 14 for its semi-final Open Cup match against the L.A. Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS). The watch party will be held in a banquet room at the Sweetwater Grille & Bar located at the Kelly Inn in St. Paul at 161 St. Anthony Avenue.

Kick-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. local time with pre-game festivities kicking off at 9:30 p.m. There will be a $10 per person charge to cover costs of the broadcast. The Sweetwater will be offering food and drink specials for all in attendance.

This is the only place you will be able to watch the game live as the Thunder have arranged for a closed circuit internet broadcast of the match. A camera will be set up at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. which will transmit the video feed over high-speed internet to a projector screen at the Sweetwater.

"This is a great opportunity for those that can't join us in L.A. to see this exciting game," said Thunder general manager Djorn Buchholz. "Although it won't be like watching it on Comcast cable, it's a great way for our fans to cheer the Thunder on to the finals."

On Wednesday, the Thunder will play the Galaxy in the Open Cup for the second time in two years, but this time on the road. Last year's meeting between these two teams saw the Thunder down the Galaxy 1-0 in the Metrodome on July 20 to propel the Thunder into the quarterfinals of the tournament.

U.S. World Cup star Landon Donovan and the Galaxy are currently in second place in the Western Conference of MLS. They are coming off a big win at home this past Saturday over the Colorado Rapids 4-1; the same score the Thunder beat the Rapids by in the Open Cup tournament earlier this year. The only difference is that the Galaxy had a man advantage on Saturday for the last 70 minutes of the match after Nat Borchers of the Rapids picked up his second yellow card of the game.

Should the Minnesota Thunder continue its run through the tournament and upset the Galaxy, it would travel to play in either Chicago or Frisco, Texas, on Sept. 28 depending on the result of the semifinal between the Chicago Fire and FC Dallas.

MYSA AND THUNDER COLLECT HURRICANE KATRINA DONATIONS AT LAST HOME GAME

During the Thunder's last home game on Saturday night, the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association and the Minnesota Thunder collected items for Hurricane Katrina victims totaling about $1,100. Approximately $500 in clothing, $400 in personal hygiene items, $100 in food and $100 in games, videos and toys were collected all together. In addition, the MYSA donated more than 1,400 new t-shirts that were an oversupply in its warehouse. A big THANK YOU goes out to all who donated items for the Katrina victims. Your generosity is much appreciated!
