Tallahassee Thunder News Release
Tallahassee, FL- The Tallahassee Thunder overcame a slow start to win against the Pensacola Barracudas 46-41. Tallahassee was sluggish as the team adjusted to the addition QB Chris Windsor and the return of OS James Dickerson. Pensacola took a fast 7-0 lead when QB Bobby Clayton found Ramon Huff for a 19-yard touchdown pass. Tallahassee's scoring drive was stopped by the Barracudas' defense but K Phil Setterquist put the Thunder on the boards with 30-yard drop-kick field goal to cut Pensacola's lead to 3.
Pensacola's offensive weapon Robert Stromas scored on a 50-yard kickoff return as the Barracudas extended their lead. Stromas also added a 4-yard rushing touchdown to give Pensacola a 21-4 lead. Despite the âCudas' lead, the southeast division champions would not go away. Rookie Cainon Lamb scored the Thunder's first touchdown of the night after a 36-yard pass from QB Windsor.
Windsor joined the Thunder this past Thursday and needed some time to adjust " I was nervous at first, I had to get in the groove and settle down." And settle down he did, adding a 2-yard rushing touchdown to cut Pensacola's lead to three.
Another rookie, Nic Thompson scored a touchdown to give Tallahassee a three point lead at the end of the first half. Once they had the lead, Tallahassee did not look back and scored 42 unanswered points. The Thunder defense got into the game as they put the pressure on Pensacola's offense and kept them scoreless in the third quarter.
Pensacola kept things interesting by scoring the last 20 points of the game, but Tallahassee was able to record their sixth consecutive home win. Head Coach Mike McClenton recorded his first win and was pleased with the team's effort "I admire the fight in these guys, they could have given up when the score was 24-4, but they kept on fighting."
OS James Dickerson returned to the team Friday and was still able to record six receptions for 70 yards. Rookie Lamb was the Thunder's leading receiver with seven catches for 105 yards and one touchdown. Windsor ended the game 24 for 42 for 259 yards, one interception, and four touchdowns passes. He also added two rushing touchdowns. The Barracudas were lead by Will Pettis with nine receptions for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Tallahassee will stay home next week and host one of its main rivals, the Macon Knights. For tickets please call 222-0400.
