Thunder Prepare For Playoffs

July 30, 2007 - Intense Football League (Intense)
Frisco Thunder News Release

The Frisco Thunder celebrated the end of the regular season on Saturday and begin preparations for the IFL Playoffs. The Thunder, who are in their inaugural season are the only expansion team to end the regular season with a winning record and gain a birth into the post season. The team will travel down to Corpus Christi to take on the Hammerheads for the third meeting this season. Unfortunately the hammerheads have handed the Thunder two of their losses this season but anything can happen in the post season. "I feel very confident about our team. I really feel like we just might peek at the right time and make a run at this. Our team knows exactly who we are and what we need to do to accomplish our goals and I have all the confidence in the world in our guys." Stated head coach Jon Loudermilk Sunday after returning from their final regular season game in Katy.

THE START

The Frisco Thunder have accomplished goals in their first season that most veteran teams dream about. Not only is the team headed to the playoffs in their opening season but they have done it with a combination of a high powered offense and a stingy defense. The team will end the regular season with the leagues most powerful pass offense and the leagues top pass defense. Offensive players such as quarterback Dustin Almond and wide receivers Jonathan Makonnen and Antwon Courington have proved to be the leagues top duo with Almond throwing for over 3800 yards and 70 touchdowns. The majority of those throws have gone to the dynamic duo of Makonnen and Courington combining for over 50 touchdowns between the two of them.

On defense, the secondary unit of Blake Farris, Roshawn Pope, Reggie Waddell, and Shaylon Carter, have been a steady core all season. Farris leads the team and is second in the league with 11 interceptions. The defensive line unit has been led by team sack leader Nathan Jackson (9.5) and DJ Johnson. The defensive front as a whole leads the league in sacks (46).

THE FINISH

The team will travel down to Corpus Christi this Friday and settle in to play the Hammerheads at 6:05 on Saturday. A win on Saturday will put the team in the Intense Bowl for the IFL Championship to face the winner of the Louisiana Swashbucklers/Odessa Roughnecks game. If the Odessa Roughnecks happen to pull out the upset and the Thunder win against Corpus, the Frisco Thunder will gain home field advantage and play the Intense Bowl at the Dr. Pepper Star Center.

The Frisco Thunder and Owner Jake Reed would like to thank all of our sponsors including EDS Credit Union for a great and successful inaugural season.
