Minnesota Thunder News Release
BLAINE, Minn. (Monday, May 12, 2003) â The Minnesota Thunder's road match against the Milwaukee Wave United Friday, May 16th (kickoff 7 p.m. CT) will be televised nationally on Fox Sports World. The match is the first of two Thunder regular season games on national television and the first of six meetings with the Wave United in 2003.
The Thunder's nine-year rivalry with the Milwaukee Rampage, which ended last year after the team ceased operation, will be rekindled with the expansion Wave United. The Thunder and Rampage squared off 48 times since 1994, with the Thunder having the upper-hand in the series 34-11-3. The Thunder also defeated Milwaukee in three playoff series since 1998, including a victory over the Rampage in the 1999 conference finals on their way to winning the A-League championship.
Friday's match will mark Milwaukee's first outdoor game in franchise history.
In 2003, Fox Sports World's coverage of 18 regular season and two playoff A-League matches will be broadcast to over 20 million homes in the United States. Fox Canada will also broadcast the games. The United Soccer League will present an A-League player feature at halftime of each regular season game.
The Thunder's only other regular season appearance on Fox Sports World is scheduled for August 8th (kickoff 7 p.m. CT) at the Indiana Blast.
