July 8, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Vancouver Whitecaps News Release

No, not the weather. In fact, the forecast for tomorrow is looking bright and sunny with a high of 21 degrees in Vancouver!

The Whitecaps return to Swangard Stadium Thursday, July 9th at 7:30 p.m. to take on Minnesota Thunder. The 'Caps are looking to improve their league performance after recording only one win in their past six USL-1 matches. Tomorrow's match up against the Thunder may serve to get the team back on track as Minnesota currently sits at the bottom of the league and has yet to record an away win this season. Things are looking up for Teitur Thordarson's side as striker Charles Gbeke and center back Wesley Charles will return to the pitch tomorrow after a two-match suspension for unsportsmanlike behavior while Geordie Lyall and Jeff Parke have returned to training. Still on the mend are Justin Moose, nursing a foot injury, and Ansu Toure who is recovering from a successful knee surgery.

Delicious Purdy's Chocolates will be on sale in the concouse at Swangard Stadium at tomorrow's match. The Whitecaps and Purdy's have parterned to bring sweet treats to the match to help raise funds for the Whitecaps Foundation. Dark and milk chocolates are available by donation, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the Whitecaps Foundation - an organization dedicated to helping create British Columbia's fittest generation by 2020. 35 Years Player Card

Peter Beardsley made a brief but memorable appearance in Vancouver in the early 1980's. The English striker had a flare for scoring flashy goals, including both in the Whitecaps 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders on June 20, 1983 - the first match to be played in the brand new BC Place Stadium. The seventh installment of our 35 Years player cards will be distributed to the first 1000 fans that enter Swangard Stadium for tomorrow's match.

Inspiration from Bobby...

The book will be onsale at Thursday's match and Bobby will be there to autograph it at halftime. The cost is $20 with $3 from every purchase going to support the Special Olympics. Pick up your book in the concourse on Thursday and you might win a 2009 Vancouver Whitecaps FC jersey!

Have your say in Vancouver MLS 2011

At the announcement of Vancouver as the home of Major League Soccer's 17th franchise, there were no Whitecaps logos in sight. As we take the first steps forward in writing the next chapter of our club's 35 year history, we want to hear what you have to say about who we are and where we're going. We have already received numerous emails and suggestions but we want to ensure all of our supporters have the opportunity to provide input.

We have created a short survey for you to fill out and we encourage you to give us your opinion. It will only take a few minutes and will be instrumental in shaping the identity of this club for 2011 and beyond.
