
Thunder announce exhibition in Rochester June 19

ST. PAUL, MN (Saturday, February 7, 2004) â The Minnesota Thunder professional soccer team has scheduled an exhibition match at Rochester Mayo High School on Saturday, June 19 (kickoff 7 p.m.), it was announced today by Thunder officials. The game will coincide with the RochesterFest Invitational soccer tournament as well as Rochesterfest, the community's largest festival.
"Rochester is clearly one of Minnesota's most active soccer communities," said Thunder president and general manager Jim Froslid. "Playing on a Saturday night in the middle of the festival should make for a fun, family outing."
The opponent for the match will be announced in the coming weeks. The stadium is expected to seat 2,000 spectators. Local officials are exploring ways to bring in additional bleachers.
"With more than 4,000 youth soccer players in the area this is a great chance to see soccer played at the highest level in the state," said Carol Lucas, president of Rochester Youth Soccer Association. "This will also be a great opportunity for the teams that participate in the tournament. We are excited to see the Thunder in Rochester."
Tickets for the match ($8 youth, $12 adult, $15 reserved) will go on sale to the public on March 9 through the Thunder ticket office (651-917-TEAM) and online at www.mnthunder.com . Tickets will also be available through some Rochester outlets to be announced.
Lagos, Branan to Conduct Clinic Today at Willow Creek Middle School
In conjunction with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association's Winter Symposium, Minnesota Thunder head coach Buzz Lagos and rookie of the year defender Dustin Branan will conduct a one-hour clinic at Willow Creek Middle School in Rochester on Saturday. The clinic will begin at 12:30 p.m. The MYSA event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers a wide variety of demonstrations and seminars that will appeal to administrators, coaches and parents. Lagos and Branan will be on hand to conduct a skills clinic. Afterwards, they will be available for autographs and photos. Youth players are encouraged to bring indoor training shoes and a soccer ball and join in on the fun.
