
Three-Time All-Arena DL Tim McGill and All-Arena DB Vince Hill Join 'Cats

SAN JOSE, CA - The SaberCats today announced three-time All-Arena DL Tim McGill and 2010 All-Arena DB Vince Hill have joined San Jose for the 2012 season. The team also announced DT Cornell Banks was added to the roster.
"Tim McGill is a veteran of this league and one of the best nose guards to ever play Arena Football," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "Vince Hill was a big part of the Arizona Rattlers last season and was one of the best defensive backs in the league this past year. We couldn't be more excited to be adding them to our roster."
McGill (6-4, 350, Illinois) is a six-year veteran of the AFL, playing the past four seasons (2007-08, 2010-11) with the Tampa Bay Storm. For his career McGill has totaled 84.5 tackles, 31.5 for loss to go along with 26.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, eight passes defensed, one fumble recovery in 84 games (80 starts). A first-team All-Arena selection each of the past two seasons and finalist for Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2011, he totaled 17.5 tackles, 11.0 for loss along with 10.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass defensed starting in 14 games. McGill's 10.0 sacks marked the first time in AFL history a nose guard has posted double-digit sacks. His first All-Arena selection came in 2008 when he was named second-team All-Arena starting in 15 games, totaling 4.0 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. Prior to Tampa Bay, McGill spent time with the New York Dragons (2004) and the Carolina Cobras (2003).
He also served stints in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints (2008), Green Bay Packers (2005-06), Miami Dolphins (2005) and the New York Jets (2004-05). McGill also spent time with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL in 2009. He played collegiately at Illinois and is a native of Chicago, IL where he attended Lakeview (IL) High School.
Hill (6-0, 190, Miles) enters his third season in the AFL after spending the past two seasons with the Arizona Rattlers (2011) and the Alabama Vipers (2010). In two seasons Hill has totaled 207.0 tackles, 51 passes defensed, 13 interceptions, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. His best season came in 2010 where he earned second-team All-Arena honors after finishing first in the league in passes defensed (36) and seventh in tackles (105). Hill's first stint in Arena Football came with the Tennessee Valley Vipers of af2 in 2009 where he helped them to an ArenaCup championship after posting 53 tackles and four interceptions in eight games.
A standout defensive back at Miles College (2004-2008), Hill earned All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 2007. After spending his first two seasons at wide receiver, he made the switch to defensive back and compiled 10 career interceptions, two returned for touchdowns while racking up 102 tackles.
Banks (6-2, 310, Fresno State) most recently spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals following his senior season with the Bulldogs. A four-year letterman at Fresno State, Banks played in 48 games, posting 109 tackles, 12.5 for loss, two sacks, six passes defensed and one forced fumble. A native of San Jose, CA, he earned All-Valley and All-Central Section honors while at Edison (CA) High School. Banks also earned defensive MVP honors at the Central Valley All-Star Game.
The SaberCats roster now stands at 17 players with seven returning from 2011.
