Ohio Machine News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Machine have signed attackman Bryce Wasserman to a three-year contract extension through 2021, midfielder Ryan Keenan to a three-year contract extension through 2021, and midfielder Sean Lawton to a two-year contract extension through 2020, the team announced today.
Wasserman was selected by the Denver Outlaws at the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Draft, before being claimed by the Machine on July 18 off waivers. As the first Monmouth University graduate to play in the MLL, Wasserman scored eight goals and two assists in his three games played.
"We were excited to add Bryce to the mix late in the 2018 season," Machine Head Coach and General Manager Bear Davis said. "He's a player who plays with no fear, and will go right at some of the best defenders on the field, and that really helped him succeed last season. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do for us in 2019."
Wasserman finished his collegiate career as Monmouth's all-time leader in goals (99), game-winning goals (9), hat tricks (14), assists (50) and points (149). The All-MAAC First Team selection also set Monmouth's single-season record for goals (34), assists (17) and points (51) in 2018.
"First of all I am incredibly honored to be considered a player that the Machine want to keep around and use in the coming years," Wasserman said. "I love this game and want to play for as long as I can so I am thankful to the organization for allowing me to continue to live out a childhood dream. I can't wait for Summer 2019 and want to help bring this team back to the top."
Keenan was selected by the Machine in the 2018 MLL Draft. Prior to hitting the pros, Keenan scored 21 goals and added 10 assists for Penn State during his senior season. Keenan played in eight games for the Sheens in 2018, scoring 11 goals and four assists for a total of 15 points.
"Ryan played a considerable amount for us last year, more than we anticipated due to injuries and he did a tremendous job," Davis said. "He filled many roles for us. He's really not limited to one phase of the game, which makes him such a valuable asset to re-sign. I loved his development last year and I'm really looking forward to having him down the road."
Prior to joining the Machine during the 2018 season, Lawton played in four career games for the Boston Cannons. With Boston he tallied two two-point goals over his four games and averaged a point per game. Lawton played for the Machine on August 4, where he scored a goal and added a ground ball. In his senior season at Western New England University, Lawton scored 28 goals and 12 assists for 40 points.
"For us it was a great last minute pickup," Davis said. "He's a big, strong midfielder. He's got a physical presence and a heavy shot and could be a great asset for us."
