
Thompson, Thomas Named AFL Player, Pitcher-of-the-Week

Grand Canyon Rafters Kevin Thompson and Peoria Javelinas Jared Thomas were named the Arizona Fall League's Player and Pitcher-of-the-Week, respectively, for the week of October 4-October 10, 2004.
Grand Canyon outfielder Kevin Thompson (NYY) hit .438 (7 for 16) with two home runs and eight RBIs. Thompson hit a grand slam on Opening Day at Peoria, and also recorded two stolen two bases during the first week of the season. Thompson hails from Fort Worth, Texas and played for the Yankees' AA affiliate in Trenton, NJ this season. Another strong candidate was the Desert Dogs first baseman Ryan Howard (PHI). Howard hit .375 with two home runs and eight RBIs, leading the Desert Dogs to a 5-0 start and first place ranking in the National Division.
Peoria Javelinas' southpaw Jared Thomas (SEA) finished the week with an era of 1.80 in five innings of work. Thomas' record is 1-0 for the Javelinas. The Ann Arbor, MI native pitched for the Mariners' AA affiliate in San Antonio this season.
