MILFORD, CT (May 17, 2005) â Another week of United States Basketball League (USBL) basketball is in the books and Kansas still sports the league's best record (11-2) after proving it can win on the road. Meanwhile, Brooklyn has caught Westchester in the East.
WEEKLY AWARDS
"PLAYER OF THE WEEK" DAVID HARRISON, OKLAHOMA STORM Oklahoma's success of late is largely in part to the play of their 6-3 Guard, David Harrison. In three games, he averaged 20.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists and 40 minutes played. Harrison's performance against the Cranes, in which he just missed a triple-double, netting 25 points, 13 rebounds and 9 steals, provided a huge lift for the Storm who won in overtime.
HONORABLE MENTION: JEREMEE MCGUIRE, KANSAS CAGERZ
"ROOKIE OF THE WEEK" BADOU GAYE, WESTCHESTER WILDFIRE Averaging just over 3 shot blocks per game, Gaye has been a solid contributor for the Wildfire. Last week, Gaye averaged 10.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2 blocks per contest. The Division III product was drafted by the Wildfire in the second round of the 2005 USBL Draft out of Gwynedd-Mercy.
"TEAM OF THE WEEK" KANSAS CAGERZ
Many questions about the Cagerz ability to win on the road have resulted due to the disproportioned Kansas schedule in the early going of the season. Everyone knows the Cagerz can win in Salina, but their play last week has answered some of the questions regarding their success on the road. Kansas won its lone home game on Tuesday and then took to the road with visits to Enid and Kearney. Kansas, who had been 0-2 away from the Bicentennial Center, won each game to go 3-0 for the week improving their record to 11-2. The Cagerz haven't answered all of their critics, but last week's 2 road wins now have shown they are capable of winning on the road and why they are the team to beat in the USBL.
