Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - As the Lancaster JetHawks welcomed the best offense in the California League to the Hangar for a four game series, they had to know they would need to play nearly perfect baseball to best the High Desert Mavericks. They did not do that on Friday, and the result was a predictable - another loss to the Northern Division leading Mavericks.
The JetHawks had a chance to strike early against their rivals from Adelanto in the first, when they loaded the bases with no outs. J.B. Shuck had reached on catcher's interference, and then J.C. Ramirez walked the next two batters. But Ramirez then got an enormous two outs when Jason Castro grounded into a double play. Shuck did score on the play, but that was all the JetHawks mustered in the frame.
The Mavericks answered immediately back in the top of the second - but not without some serious help from the JetHawks. After Juan Diaz singled with one out, Jeffrey Dominguez reached on an error by JetHawks third baseman David Flores. Gavin Dickey singled in the speedy Diaz, and Dominguez scored on a Tyson Gillies groundout. The Mavericks scored two more in the third (two of which came on a two run single by Travis Scott) and three more in the fourth, while the JetHawks scored one on a ground rule double by Jason Castro.
Lancaster starter David Duncan struggled again and fell to 0-8 on the season. He lasted five innings, yielded six earned runs while striking out four and walking three. J.C. Ramirez got his second win of the year against the JetHawks, and third overall. He went five and two thirds and allowed three runs and struck out three. Scott was the offensive star for the Mavs with five RBIs. The JetHawks left 20 in base.
These two clubs meet up at the Hangar again tomorrow night at 7 PM. The radio broadcast of the game on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks.com begins with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45 PM. We continue with Military Appreciation Night, and the players will be wearing special camouflage jerseys that will be auctioned off at the end of the evening.
