Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets, Single-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are proud to announce their 2016 roster. Many familiar names will be back with the GreenJackets, with a local Georgia product and nine former GreenJackets returning to Augusta.
The GreenJackets also announced an open-to-the-public practice, "Buzztastic Batting Practice at the Lake", will take place Wednesday, April 6th at Lake Olmstead Stadium from 5pm to 8pm. The practice is open for fans to attend and admission is FREE. Special Wash It Down Wednesday Drink Specials include $2 12 oz, and $4 32 oz Draft beer, Coca-Cola Fountain Soda and a limited concessions menu.
"This will be an exciting group to watch this season at the San Francisco Giants have provided us a talented group," said GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger. "We invite the CSRA to come out and welcome the 'Jackets in style and enjoy watching practice under the lights Wednesday as we kick off an exciting 2016 season!"
Former College of Southern Nevada pitcher and first round draft pick Phil Bickford will be making the trip to Augusta for 2016. In 2015, he spent time with the Arizona Fall League Giants, appearing in 10 games. Bickford threw 22.1 innings, striking out 32 batters and pitching to the tune of 2.01 ERA.
Shortstop Lucious Fox, the Giants' fourth ranked prospect, signed with the Giants in 2015 as an international free agent after moving back to his native Bahamas. Considered the best athlete of the 2015 international class, the 18-year-old boasts impressive speed, as well as the ability to switch-hit, and could potentially become a solid lead-off hitter.
Jalen Miller, a shortstop drafted in the third round in 2015 out of Riverwood High School, makes the trek up Interstate 20 as he gets set for his first season in Augusta. Last season, the 19-year-old played 44 games for the Arizona Fall League Giants, hitting .218 with 13 RBI, and stole 11 bases.
Shortstop Kevin Beltre also spent 2015 with the Arizona Fall League Giants, hitting .239 in 14 games. Beltre hit one home run and three RBI.
Manuel Geraldo, an infielder with experience at shortstop and second base, spent last season playing for the Giants' Dominican Summer League. Through 65 games, he hit .328 with three home runs, 37 RBI and stole 18 bases.
Centerfielder Gustavo Cabrera played two games in 2015 with the Arizona Fall League Giants. Cabrera has spent much of the past two seasons recovering from a severe wrist injury. In 2013, he played in 54 games for the Dominican Summer League, hitting .247, with two home runs and 22 RBI.
Outfielder Jean Angomas played for the Arizona League Giants in 2015. Through 32 games, he hit .261 with one home run and seven RBI. Angomas has played all three outfield positions since joining the Giants' organization.
The GreenJackets will welcome back nine familiar faces to Lake Olmstead Stadium. Tyler Cyr, Dylan Davis, Skyler Ewing, Ashford Fulmer, Seth Harrison, Connor Kaden, Jake McCasland, Matt Pare and Michael Santos will be making the trip back to Augusta.
