Texas hot with two blazing teams for 06-07
March 7, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Dallas, TX. Charles Key, in an unprecedented move, announces the return of the Texas Tycoons and the beginning of the newly established Houston Havoc, both to play in the upcoming 06-07 season. The Texas Tycoons had a very successful first season; making it to the playoffs, sending three powerful players to the All-Star Game and establishing a powerhouse organization, not only on the court but also as a business entity in the community.
After a successful first season, the Tycoons continued to dominate into the 05-06 season with an undefeated 4-0 record. However, due to problems caused by hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, plus other teams not starting as scheduled, it left the Tycoons without enough teams to play in the division. "After numerous meetings and conversations with the league office, we felt that it was in our best interest to suspend operations for this past season," Key stated. "With several new teams set to begin play in the fall, we are ready to move forward with not only the Tycoons, but the Houston Havoc as well. We are looking forward to an exciting season."
The Tycoons previously played in the northern Ft. Worth areas of Haltom City/North Richland Hills. However, the upcoming season will be played in Dallas in hopes to bring a larger fan base to the metroplex. The Tycoons plan to do that with the return of key players including Chris Davis, a quick shooting guard from the University of North Texas, who is currently averaging 23 points and 8 rebounds with an international team in Finland.
The Houston Havoc will bring the ABA's vision of exciting, family friendly and affordable basketball to the southern region. Operations for the Houston team will be based out of the Dallas office. Tryout dates, practices and home game venues will be announced at a later date.
