Florida Tarpons News Release
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Tarpons are pleased to announce the return of WR Wilfred Rivera for the 2013 season.
It's great to have Rivera back for the 2013 season. He was just starting to put up some good numbers and then had the season ending injury. He has been an asset both on and off the field, and thrilled to have him returning. Said Tarpons Head Coach Michael Taylor.
Rivera played in 4 games catching 11 passes for 174 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also spent time on the defensive side of the ball with 7 tackles playing cornerback. Just when he was getting in a rhythm for the Tarpons he sustained a season ending injury. During the 2012 season Rivera was named UIFL Offensive Player of the Week in Week 10.
"I look forward to having the opportunity to bring more Big plays to my hometown fans, family and students. I have been working very diligently to come back healthy from my broken ankle I suffered last season and I thank God for being able to heal so fast and get back to playing the sport I love.. I know that the good Lord has a plan for me and my teammates this season and I'm trusting in it." Said Wilfred Rivera.
Before playing for the Tarpons, Rivera played at Florida Atlantic University. He attended FGCU for Grad School studying Education. Currently Rivera teaches Algebra 1 at Palmetto Ridge High School and coaches Football and Track.
