Chad Severs earns third Team of the Week selection

(Harrisburg, Pa., June 21, 2005) - Harrisburg City Islanders midfielder Matt Tanzini has been named the latest USL Second Division Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Harrisburg forward Chad Severs joins Tanzini on the USL Team of the Week for Week 9. Both Tanzini and Severs posted noteworthy performances as Harrisburg extended a franchise record with their fourth straight win, 3-2 win over the Western Mass Pioneers on June 18 at Skyline Sports Complex.

Tanzini, the City Islanders' leading scorer in 2004 (6g, 13pts), contributed a big-time spark off the bench against the Pioneers. Replacing David Schofield at halftime, the 29-year-old helped create Harrisburg's second goal of the night in the 55th minute when he chased down the rebound of a Steve Fisher shot and played it back to Fisher for the score. And in the 76th minute, Tanzini worked inside from the left wing and cranked a right-footed blast over Western Mass keeper Bryan O'Quinn from 20-25 yards out for the eventual game-winner. The points were Tanzini's first of the season.

Severs continued a torrid hot streak against the Pioneers to earn his third Team of the Week selection this year. The 22-year-old rookie staked Harrisburg to an early lead when he nodded home a Derek Potteiger service in the 16th minute, and later recorded his first career assist on Tanzini's goal. The Penn State product leads the City Islanders in goals (5) and points (11), and against Western Mass became the first City Islander to score a goal in three straight games.

Harrisburg has now placed nine different players on the Second Division Team of the Week this season. Tanzini joins goalkeeper Bryan Hill and defender Shane Crawford as City Islanders to be named Player of the Week in 2005.

The City Islanders are back in action on Wednesday, June 22, on the road against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Kickoff at Falconi Field in Washington, Pa., will be 7:05 p.m. The game will be televised live on FOX Sports Pittsburgh.
